YIN Events

To attract more members in the early stages of their careers, IFA adopted in 2005 the Young IFA Network (YIN) initiative. The Executive Committee established the YIN Committee consisting of young IFA members to develop, propose and implement programmes, both at the Branch level and worldwide, to make IFA more attractive to young members. The IFA Branches were invited to take corresponding action at the Branch level. Since the official launch of YIN at the 2006 Amsterdam Congress, many IFA Branches have implemented YIN activities. Also at this IFA Congress, there are special YIN events which are listed below. While these events are intended to attract members of the age of 40 and under, all IFA members are welcome to attend.

Young IFA Network (YIN) Meet & Greet Reception

On Sunday, September 11, 2011 from 16:30 to 17:30 in the Room 342AB, a YIN Meet & Greet Reception will be held. This YIN Meet & Greet Reception is especially intended for persons attending their first IFA Congress. Its purpose is to give young IFA members a chance to meet informally at the beginning of the Congress, enabling them to start building their own personal networks and to benefit more from attending the Congress.

YIN Seminar

Wednesday, September 14 – 14:30-16:00 – Amphitheatre Bordeaux
As in previous Congresses, this Seminar will be divided in two segments. In the first segment, the winner of the Mitchell B. Carroll Prize, Ms Jennifer Farrell (United Kingdom) will present the winning thesis “The interface of international trade law and taxation : defining the role of the World Trade Organisation in the field of international taxation” and answer any queries from participants. The second segment will consist of a Moot Court Session dealing with Commissionaire arrangements and Permanent Establishment Exposure. There have been a number of recent court cases on the matter, sometimes taking conflicting positions. Raphael Coin of GE France will act for the taxpayer, Sharon Aharoni of the Israeli tax authorities will act for the tax authorities. Philip Baker QC will be deciding upon their arguments, acting as the Judge.

YIN Party and Activity

A party is organised especially for young Congress Participants on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 from 20:00 to 24:00 at the Pavillon Dauphine. Although all Congress Participants are welcome, its format, programme and venue is selected to attract young Congress Participants. During the YIN Party, fun and games will be organised.
